DIY iPhone Macro Lens

Friday, January 8th, 2010

Some long time ago I saw a post on DIYphotography “Super Macro Your Cellphone Camera With A DVD Lens“, and I decided to try and make the same thing only with the laser pen I’ve got dusting around for quite a while. I made a step by step tutorial how to make a macro lens for iPhone or any other cellphone as well.

1. Get yourself a laser pen.

Basics of portrait lighting

Friday, September 25th, 2009

After my previous entries: “Portrait setup examples” and “Basic portrait lighting diagrams” I decided to continue and today I want to share some basic portrait lighting setups with you. I found them pretty useful and you won’t need a lot of studio equipment, just some basic strobist stuff.

Small strobe with studio softbox

Thursday, September 3rd, 2009

For some time I tried to think how can I combine a studio softbox and a small studio flash. Today I found a good tip how to use a studio softbox with a small camera flash Yanik’s Photo School demonstrates how you can make your own flash rig using standard studio equipment, it’s really easy. Only one more thing I want to figure out is how can I use my studio reflectors with my small flash. If you have any suggestions drop a comment.

My first One Light experience

Sunday, May 3rd, 2009

Last week I attended a seminar about “One Light Photography”. It was a 6 hour long lecture and practice. The professional photographer showed us how to make cool high-class photos using only 1 light and the available lighting. It really inspired me and today I decided to try some techniques I learned on the seminar, so let’s see the results.

Why should I choose longer lenses for portrait works ?

Thursday, January 8th, 2009

I always wanted to know why professional photographers always use longer lenses like 70-200 or 90 for portrait shooting. Mark Wallace from studiolighting.net gave the answer on this question.

I favor longer lenses for portrait work for several reasons:
