Small strobe with studio softbox
For some time I tried to think how can I combine a studio softbox and a small studio flash. Today I found a good tip how to use a studio softbox with a small camera flash Yanik’s Photo School demonstrates how you can make your own flash rig using standard studio equipment, it’s really easy. Only one more thing I want to figure out is how can I use my studio reflectors with my small flash. If you have any suggestions drop a comment.
Here’s what I did with equipment I already have.
All you need to make a flash mod:
- A flash (SB-600)
- Umbrella adapter or any other adapter which can make a 90 degree angle
- A clamp with the mount adapter
Put it all together
And mount it on the Softbox ring, I used the upper side of the ring
Attach the flash
And you’r ready to go !
Conclusion
Very cheap and easy to make/use mod, but it has 1 little disadvantage, you can’t rotate the softbox without taking off the flash mod and the softbox ring, if you have a square softbox it’s not a problem, but if you use rectangular softbox or a strip box you will deal with this dificulties.
